Find compacted cubic yards
Multiply square feet by depth in inches and divide by 324. A 600-square-foot area at three inches is about 5.56 cubic yards before allowance.
Convert with product density
If the supplier specifies 1.4 tons per cubic yard, 5.56 yards equals about 7.78 tons before allowance. Do not treat 1.4 as universal; enter the figure for the actual product.
Account for compaction and delivery
Confirm whether the design depth is compacted and ask how much loose aggregate is needed. Check truck capacity, delivery minimums and a safe dumping location with the supplier.
