Measure each section
Multiply length by width for rectangles. Divide L-shaped lawns into rectangles and add them. Approximate curved edges with smaller measured shapes rather than one oversized box. Subtract only large patios, buildings or beds that materially change the total.
Choose the allowance
A clean rectangle generally creates fewer offcuts than a lawn with curves, trees and narrow areas. The purpose of the allowance is to cover real trimming and minor measurement error, not to replace careful measuring.
Convert to supplier units
Divide order square feet by the stated coverage per roll or pallet and round up to the available purchasing unit. Confirm whether individual rolls can supplement a pallet order. Coordinate delivery with finished preparation because sod is perishable.
